Newcomers FAQs

DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO ATTEND CHURCH? Not at all! Our church warmly welcomes both members and visitors. You are invited to join us for worship and participate in the various activities and ministries, regardless of membership status.

WHERE ARE YOUR SERVICES? St. John’s West Toronto meets in person at 288 Humberside Ave. or virtually via Zoom. Directions to the church are at: sjwt.ca/contact Zoom information can be found at sjwt.ca

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? We believe in a "come as you are" approach. There is no strict dress code for our services. You are welcome to dress comfortably reflecting your personal style.

HOW CAN I GET MORE INVOLVED AT ST. JOHN’S? In addition to attending our Sunday service, we invite you to become an active community member by volunteering for various ministries and participating in our community events. WHAT KIND OF CHURCH ARE YOU? St. John's West Toronto is a member of the Anglican Church of Canada and part of the Diocese of Toronto (https://www.toronto.anglican.ca/). Our worship style incorporates liturgical elements and sacraments while embracing the teachings and traditions of the Anglican Communion. We strive to provide a sacred space for spiritual growth, community, and the celebration of the Eucharist.

WHAT ARE YOUR SERVICES LIKE? St. John's services are based on the 'Book of Alternative Services' (https://www.anglican.ca/resources/the-book-of-alternative-services/)

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH? To become a member of the the St. John's parish, you can reach out to our Pastor by email (pastor@sjwt.ca) or contact one of our Church Wardens by email (wardens@sjwt.ca).

IS PARKING PROVIDED? There is street parking available near the church on Humberside Ave. and on High Park Ave. Parking is also available in the Humberside Collegiate Institute parking lot on Quebec Ave., next to the church.

HOW CAN I GET INFORMATION ABOUT UPCOMING EVENTS? You can stay updated on upcoming events by checking our church website, subscribing to our newsletter, and following our social media accounts. ARE THERE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES? Yes, we have various volunteer opportunities available for members to get involved and serve in ministries such as greeting, music, tech support, hospitality, and more. HOW IS THE CHURCH FUNDED? Our church relies on the generous giving of its members and supporters. Donations can be made through offerings during services or online through our secure giving platform. https://www.canadahelps.org/CharityProfilePage.aspx?CharityID=d46513 You can also donate by e-transfer to wardens@sjwt.ca or write to wardens@sjwt.ca to inquire about pre-authorized giving.

IS THE CHURCH ACCESSIBLE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES? Yes, we strive to provide an inclusive and accessible environment for all. Our facilities include an elevator and accessible washrooms If you have specific accessibility needs, please reach out to the church office at 416-763-2393 or info@sjwt.ca for further assistance.

Weddings

DOES THE CHURCH OFFER WEDDING CEREMONY SERVICES? Yes, we offer wedding ceremony services for both members and non-members. Our pastor is available to officiate weddings and can provide guidance and support throughout the process.

CAN I HAVE A RECEPTION OR CELEBRATION AT THE CHURCH FOLLOWING THE WEDDING CEREMONY? Yes, our church facilities can be rented for wedding receptions or celebrations. Please see the "Rental Space" section of our FAQ page for more information on booking our facilities for events.

DOES THE CHURCH PERFORM SAME-SEX MARRIAGES? Absolutely! St. John's West Church celebrates marriage equality and gladly officiates same-sex wedding ceremonies. All couples are warmly welcomed and supported.

Baptism

CAN INFANTS BE BAPTIZED IN THE CHURCH? The Anglican Church offers baptism to people of all ages. For more information about scheduling and preparing for baptism, contact our pastor at pastor@sjwt.ca or 416-763-2393
