SJWT 100th: Where We Used To Be
While the main focus of our SJWT 100th commemoration is marking the centenary of our current building on Humberside Ave., I thought it would be of interest to highlight where the church moved from in 1923.
St. John's second church stood in the unique triangle piece of land where St. John's Road meets Dundas Street West in the heart of the West Toronto Junction. Today, a Tim Horton's and Malta Park occupy the site.
Included here is a view of this intersection taken on December 3, 1923, in which you can see the church building behind the Polarine Motor Oils sign. The photo is from the City of Toronto Archives.
Also in the City of Toronto Archives is a photo from 1916 depicting a similar view on Dundas St. West, but at Clendenan Ave. and in the background St. John's Church can be seen. This photo is part of the attached West Toronto Junction Historical Society Facebook page posting from Feb. 20, 2016.

Also attached is a photo of the second SJWT church building in a postcard from about the 1910s that also showed other churches in West Toronto.
